when people say New Year’s or St Patrick’s or whatever at bars are annoying because it’s like “amateur night?” That’s how I feel all the time when I’m driving.

  • ID means Idaho right

    May 28th, 2007

Look at this thing I bought:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSAA:US:31&Item=180122466371

It’s a fetal monitor, I’ve seen some of these before and I think they might make cool sounds. The seller apparantly lives in a town called Chubbuck, Idaho.

Consider that: Chubbuck, Idaho. Can you even imagine the sort of being whose bloated abdomen was orignially probed by this device? Try to now.

  • brokenpants.com launches site to attract Latino users

    May 17th, 2007

Social networking site brokenpants.com has launched the beta version of brokenpants.com en Español, a site aimed at America’s 42 million Latinos.

Brokenpants.com, headquartered in Beverly Hills but owned by New York media company News Corp., said Tuesday that the entertainment, content and artists on the new site will be geared toward the U.S. Hispanic population, and it will offer a Spanish-language instant messenger service.

“We’re moving rapidly to build communities that reflect and respect the lifestyles of our diverse members,” Travis Katz, senior vice president and general manager of Brokenpants.com International, said in a statement. “brokenpants.com en Español opens the community even wider, giving our Hispanic members the choice to share their experiences, connect with family members and plan their social lives in either Spanish or English.”

Brokenpants.com ranks among the top five Web destinations for U.S. Latinos. About 43 percent of Hispanic Americans who use the Internet visited the site last month, according to Nielsen/NetRatings. Brokenpants.com estimates that more than 6 million of its U.S. users described themselves as Latino and/or Hispanic in their profiles.

Latinos are an attractive demographic group for brokenpants.com, whose target audience is teens and young adults. The average age among U.S. Hispanics in 2005 was 27.2, compared with 36.2 in the general population. About one-third of the Hispanic population was under 18 in 2005, compared with one-fourth of Americans as a whole, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Brokenpants.com also announced Tuesday the beta launch of a pan-American site, brokenpants.com Latinoame`rica, and revealed plans for sites in Brazil and Mexico. It already has communities in more than 10 countries, including the United Kingdom and Japan.

  • I guess I was a combination of House of Pain and Bobby Brown

A few days ago, I finished another pedal. It’s a fuzz with a switch for internal feedback so it does weird kind of tremolos and swells and that rhythmic clicking sound that so many things seem to make in feedback loops.

    dist-001.jpg

    dist-002.jpg

Here’s the last two pedals together:

    dist-003.jpg

The fuzz is on the bottom because I don’t know what to call it yet, and yeah the writing is pretty trashy looking but it’s in a vhs case ferchrissakes and anyway I kind of like that aesthetic.

    Secondly: new BW mp3

    http://brokenpants.com/bloodwaterfall/mp3s/050107-tremolo-first.mp3

    http://brokenpants.com/bloodwaterfall

It’s in stereo! I recorded it onto a cassette which had had the tape inside stretched and twisted with a paperclip, making it sound all broken and cool, but even apart from that the right and left channels are different for some reason I don’t understand since I don’t really even use the right when I play. Getting it off the tape was a bit of a hassle, though, I only have one line into my computer, so I had to play the tape all the way through twice, and the two recordings don’t quite match up. For this mp3 I didn’t mess with editing it much, but 050107-tremolo-second ended up with the right side recording about .75 seconds behind after about ten minutes. I went in and clipped out little bits of the right track here and there so it’s closer to matching up, so now there’s all these weird panning effects as the two channels go slightly on and off sync. It’s cool, but I think I’m going to try to pare down the song to just the good parts before I do anything with it.
