  • some Blood Waterfall and some noise tapes

    June 26th, 2008

First off, here’s some new Blood Waterfall me solo material to provide the atmosphere for this post:

Without Pat and Adam, I have to learn to fill in all the holes myself - this is a couple different Casios and my usual pedal stuff… I have an MT-100 I think with dirty sliders so sometimes the drum machine slows down to infinite time between beats, which makes the Casio chords drone rather than play cheesy bass parts, but sometimes it stops making noise or does something bad sounding or whatever. Anyway this is just something from the other night to give you an idea of what I’ve been doing lately.

A few months ago I got a random noise tape from a band with the nondescript, hard-to-google name Hot Air Balloon Ride, I think I just bought it from Tomentosa, anyway it opens with a long long segment of a baseball radio broadcast… maybe some effects but nothing to make it interesting. Once the noise comes in it gets really good, though, and later there’s a bunch of radio rock song segments, kind of in a dumb/”we’re ironic” sense, but the thing is the music continues to rock in spite of the obnoxious sound sources, so it’s cool. Oh, here’s another site where they talk about it.

This is their new cassette Bundle of Laughs, it’s cool, too! I forgot everything I meant to say about it, but it’s cool. Third Eye Blind or something is on the second side, I know it’s easy when describing the band to just mention the obvious gag samples and neglect the real good stuff, the laser attack synth noise that makes up most of the tape, but… that’s what I’m going to do. Awesome stuff, though, check it out: link

OH also the current best band, Warmer Milks, has just released approximately one million minutes of new music: a cd and a tape on Animal Disguise that I just got in the mail yesterday. Soft Walks is from the high fidelity, more coherent, folk-rock, full band side of the rainbow, really nice stuff, I haven’t listened to the tape yet, and I realized a moment ago there are actually two tapes and one is called Lonesome Drifter but it’s by WM and not Mammal??? Curiouser and curiouser…

Besides that there’s a double C60 called Massive Dreadock on Every Label Ever, all live? that plods all around the gamut: heavy psyche, weird noise, distilled uncomfortability, etc. Damn, there’s way too much of this stuff all at once, damn.

There’s a pretty good chance I’m going to buy a scanner tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll scan the last month’s worth of cool drawings I’ve done, and hopefully brokenpants.com will get some content other than disco playlists! Hooray.
